Palace Skateboards and their love of football
Palace Skateboards, formerly known as Palace Wayward Boys Choir, emerged in the early 2010s decade as a group of skaters who were inspired by the golden era of skateboarding from the early 90s. While their primary love is skateboarding, their relationship with football has always been prevalent. From their brand's inception to its current state, Palace has managed to build a community of streetwear enthusiasts around them, with football as an underlying theme.
During a time when the skate scene was gaining attention from media, sportswear, and high fashion brands, Palace experienced significant growth, therefore allowing them to be more adventurous in their offerings. Throughout their tenure in the streetwear industry, Palace has had numerous collaborations with brands, and in each launch, there has been a nod to football culture. Their designs show subtle hints of inspiration from the released T-shirts with jersey templates to their very own performance football jerseys. An example of this was their collaboration with Umbro, which was inspired by Palace's love for football (obviously), British subcultures, and classic training wear. Therefore, this formula became a winning strategy for their designs and campaigns. Through their partnership with adidas, they were able to work on a triple collaboration between themselves, Y-3, & adidas. This collaboration was to celebrate the 20-year partnership between Y-3 & adidas. The collection featured a retro Teamgeist jersey reminiscent of the 2006 adidas World Cup jerseys. These collaborations have caused a stir within both the streetwear and football communities, with high demand and resell value. Their connection to football has had a significant impact on both the streetwear and football communities. Their collaborations and football-inspired collections always garnered immense attention and excitement. The launch of the adidas x Juventus x Palace collaboration in 2019, for example, sold out within minutes, across their own site, adidas, and Juventus. showcasing the power of their reach. While their primary love is skateboarding, their vision and brand have become synonymous with football, creating a unique and influential presence; I look forward to seeing what’s their next collaborations and who it's with.
